RE: Memory Foam Topper

we bought the 4" serta memory foam topper (with pillows) at overstock.com for 150 and put it on top of the factory bed - then realized in a cabover truck camper that setup may feel great - but it didn't leave room to open cabinets and allowed for more head bonking. DOH! So we removed the factory mattress and used just the 4" on the platform - comfy when sleeping but my fat butt sunk too far, although my lighter partner was OK. So we put a couple of inexpensive egg crates under the memory foam - aahhh - just right! regarding the memory foam being warm - I found a mattress pad at Fred Meyer that uses "Cool Max" fabric, it might be my imagination but it has helped with the retained heat with the 4" topper in the house - so i've got one to put in the camper too. Ramble mode off, Clarice

RE: Boondocking around Stanley, ID?

there's a lot of spots to pull off along 75 north of lower Stanley (like the Yankee Fork area previously mentioned - be careful of bears) all the way through to Galena Summit south of Stanley, as well as along hwy 21 west of Stanley. Although this summer I noticed a lot of signs in the pullouts saying that camping was only permitted where a metal fire ring existed, nobody kicked me out of my favorite spot! Good Luck and take care with any fires please - we've been pretty lucky so far this summer! Cheers, Clarice

RE: I Found All of the Campers - Hells Canyon, Idaho/Oregon

thanks for mentioning the Temps - I had assumed that since we didn't make it in spring, that trip would have to wait 'til fall - you've confirmed that! (we don't have A/C either) Cheers, Clarice

RE: July 4th on South Fork of Boise River

Sweet! thanks for the pix. We've been to the South Fork three times since Memorial day - below Anderson Ranch while the flows were low. Plan to head above it probably this weekend then again a couple weeks later. Have you headed up to Trinity Lakes with your TC? Since I haven't done it in a smaller vehicle (my '96 Jimmy) i'm a little curious what it'll be like with the TC! Cheers, Clarice

RE: Lost our local S&S dealer

So is Nelson's in Boise? yep, just a little further down Chinden to the west. There are a lot of dealers on Chinden, I hope one of them get the S&S business, rather than someone further out of Boise. One of the guys at Nelson's said another local dealer is very close to the end as well - they have lots on both Chinden and out in Nampa. I hope they can all hang on - it's nice having a lot of small/local dealers so close. Bodily RV recently sold to Camping World - closing the Chinden location. So far I haven't had a need to stop by their location in Meridien to see what changes they've made. Cheers, Clarice

RE: Lost our local S&S dealer

I first noticed the locked gates at Roger's the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend - I bought my 2006 S&S there in February, and wanted to check out a new model they had on the website. Gates locked at 1pm on a Saturday - after Camille had just told me a couple weeks early that they wouldn't have a day off until after August. Then I had a roof leak two days later and called to schedule service - no answer, no reply to voicemail or email, drove by again, still locked... Roger and Camille were really nice to work with these last few months - but I am very disappointed that they didn't find a more graceful way to close their doors. Surely there could've been a way to do it that involved their customers, their manufacturers? I was lucky that S&S is so wonderful - I was able to get my leak and a couple other warranty items repaired at Nelson's RV and S&S paid for it directly. But I was told one story of a woman that bought last fall and Roger's was storing the trailer 'til spring - she hadn't picked it up yet and now can't get her property back. I've been hoping that some perfectly logical explanation would surface to explain how they could leave people stranded! S&S had heard they were closed but had no details when I called them about my leak - couldn't Roger & Camille have worked with the manufacturers so they wouldn't be blindsided by the phone calls they started getting? heck lots of businesses have "Going out of Business Sales", which gives the public time to find out the business is closing, etc - not to mention clear the inventory from the lot. I hope it all works out for them - and that we get a great new local dealer to support us! Cheers, Clarice **edited to clarify badly written sentence

RE: What's behind the name? Screen name that is.

back before I got smart and fled my home state of California, I was a season ticket holder and big San Jose Sharks hockey fan, and they always lost (expansion team) so it seemed both ironic and upbeat to get a license plate "SHRXWIN"... Those plates are sitting in the garage now, but the email and login lives on!! Cheers, Clarice

RE: No battery shut off

I have a battery disconnect - VERY inconveniently located near all the other switches - after reseting the clock on the stereo a couple of times I've got it firmly taped down with flourescent pink duct tape!!

RE: Toyo tire question

My Toyos are M-55s from Les Schwab. I've only had the camper out on 3 trips since I got it last month, but they have been on dirt/gravel roads, lots of washboarding, dips, etc and the truck feels great. good luck!

RE: HONDA GENS./ Free Shipping

Last Thursday I called Wise, Mayberrys and Alamia, and Alamia had the lowest price shipping to Boise of the three on both Honda 1000 and 2000, all three were very close in price. Of course, I ended up buying a 1000 from a guy on craigslist today instead :^) Good Luck!

RE: 4 year old, brand new camper... concerns...?

A few weeks ago I bought a 2006 S & S off the dealer lot, it had sat for just over 2 years. I've used it the last 2 weekends and the issues i've had are pretty minor, fixable. The door is no longer aligned - the Deadbolt wouldn't close, and the bottom corner sticks. The battery compartment latch didn't hold, popped open when driving. I took it back last week and they fixed the latch and moved the deadbolt strikeplate down - instead of squaring the door. I'll be seeing them again about that, the stuck corner lets in air if it doesn't close, and is scratching the sill when it does close. a lot of the drawers are tough to open/close, sticking. i expect that to work itself out over time. I paid a lot less for a camper that nobody has slept in which is worth it to me! Good Luck :^) Clarice

RE: Newbie - Roadside assistance

what is AAA RV Plus? ah, I found the answer to that question when I called 3 weeks ago to have my Truck towed with the Camper attached... It is a level above AAA Plus coverage, and is available here in Idaho, not sure about whether it is regional. I have my auto insurance through AAA and they knew for 2 weeks that I was getting a camper - and didn't tell me to upgrade my Roadside Coverage, so it was pretty easy to get them to upgrade me and cover the tow. Check AAA online for your zip code and see what kind of coverage they have. I just went to AAAhartford.com and put in a random CT zipcode 06001 and it showed regular and Plus/RV as options... Good Luck!

RE: Photo Thread - Post a Photo of Your Truck Camper Here

Three weeks ago I posted the picture of my new camper on the truck, outside the dealership. Today I'm home from the first trip - a 1 night stay at CJ Strike Reservoir. It was windy and cold but still nice - especially being in a camper instead of a tent!! http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2029/2345865369_d97b445d04.jpg?v=0/ edited to change location of link

RE: Tires Installed

I have Toyo M55s LT265/75R16s on my truck ('98 Ram 2500 LB quad cab with a 2006 S & S 9.5SC). I've only had the truck since the fall and the camper a couple of weeks, and I've only driven it around town so no specific feedback yet. It was nice when buying the camper to be told I had good tires - at the time I bought them I thought I'd be getting a TT not a TC. I spent around 1000 bucks for the 4 of them. now that I have the camper - and the thread on checking your spare sent me under the truck - I have to buy a higher rated spare before I hit the road for the first time this weekend. I'm hoping to find something a little cheaper with the right ratings - that will fit down there (now that I've been reminded in this thread to check the space down there!) I have 2 sets of Toyo's for my '96 Jimmy - summer and winter tires. I don't really remember which models - something about G04 plus and Open Country? anyway, I've been alternating between those for 3 years now and am really pleased with the performance in all situations - streets, in the snow, on gravel roads, everywhere I've taken them they've been great. Cheers, Clarice edit: ok they are Observe G02+ for winter and Open Country A/T for summer!

RE: Any S&S owners?

Did you buy yours in Boise at Roger's RV? We drove from Denver to buy ours there. Not sure if they'll let me drive back to drop it back off and sell it for me though! I need to get started on that.... yep, Roger & Camille. they only have a couple of new units and the week after I bought mine a used one came in (which I probably would've bought instead - those bubble windows seem nice!) - doesn't hurt to ask, give them a call or drop an email! I'm looking forward to this weekend - I don't have to work, the truck is working (it broke down the morning after I picked up the camper - fuel pump!). We plan to just spend time in it, cleaning up some sawdust in some cabinets, figure out how things work, decide between using just the 4" topper or the mattress (the cabinets don't open with both - doh!). Hopefully by next weekend I'll have a comfort level on the battery life and can head out for the weekend! Cheers, Clarice

RE: Any S&S owners?

I've only had mine for a couple of weeks and haven't been able to go anywhere yet darn it - but I knew it was the right one as soon as I saw it so I'm sure it's going to be great! Cheers, Clarice 2006 S&S 9.5SC
